Greg Bogin is a contemporary painter based in New York City. His work is instantly recognizable for its shaped canvases, bright color gradients, and ultra-smooth finishes. Drawing from minimalist traditions, advertising, and pop culture, Bogin creates paintings that are both formal and playful—precise in construction, yet open in feeling.

Born in 1965, Bogin studied at The Cooper Union and has shown his work internationally for more than three decades. His paintings have been exhibited at galleries including Marlborough Contemporary, Leo Koenig Inc., Mary Boone Gallery, Galerie Bruno Bischofberger, and Over the Influence, among others. His work has also been included in several museum shows and group exhibitions across the U.S. and Europe.

Bogin’s practice is deeply tied to process. He builds his shaped panels by hand, applying layers of gesso, sanding between coats, and then finishing the surface with sprayed automotive lacquer. The result is a high-gloss, almost manufactured look—yet every curve and gradient is the product of meticulous studio work. There’s a clarity in his surfaces not unlike the polish seen in luxury watches from brands like Omega or Breitling, where technical detail meets visual refinement.

Despite their sleek surfaces, Bogin’s paintings carry a quiet emotional weight. Some are inspired by road signs, corporate branding, or childhood memories. Others suggest mood or movement through pure form and color. Like a tailored Tom Ford suit, the simplicity often hides the complexity beneath. At their core, his works aim to create space—for joy, for pause, for something lighter. “The world is dark enough,” Bogin has said. “I try to make work that gives people a break from that.”
